Seminar: Understanding Praxis and Dyspraxia

This one-day course is a “must have” for every professional that works in the pediatric world. Pulling from 34 years of work experience, Maude Le Roux explains this ability / disability in clear and practical terms. She defines it, pulls it apart in different components, allowing the participant to fully grasp this developmental delay that haunts so many children in motor delay as well as in learning. Dyspraxia is frequently called “the hidden disorder” in other wise bright and intelligent children. The content will include discussion of the influence of dyspraxia on social-emotional development, academic learning, social pragmatic speech and language, as well as on cognitive and abstract problem solving. The participant will leave with tools of assessment to investigate as well as practical hands-on intervention techniques that could be applied immediately in their work.

Speaker: Maude Le Roux, OTR/L, International Trainer

Maude Le Roux is returning to us in Singapore for her seventh visit and continues to inspire us with new learning, impacting on our intervention with children and adults. Her workshops are popular and previos feedback included much praise. She is an accomplished occupational therapist with great affinity for learning and understanding the human brain. She was born and raised in South Africa and graduated from the University of Stellenbosch in Cape Town in 1984. Maude and Charl Le Roux moved to the USA in 1993 and opened A Total Approach in September 2001. Maude is SIPT certified and specializes in Sensory Integration services as it applies to functional activities of daily living, including improving the ability of children / students of all ages to partake in his/her learning environment.

Maude has been trained in several different programs in developing reading and writing skills over the past 15 years. She designs her own live courses with regards to emotional processing and executive functioning. Maude works with a team of occupational therapists and speech language pathologists in her practice. She is well known for her experience and work with children who carry a diagnosis on the Autism Spectrum, Attachment, Sensory Processing Disorder, and Dyslexia/ Learning Disabilities. Maude is a mentor to many therapists, including OT and DIR professionals internationally. She has presented at conferences in a variety of settings across the US and also internationally. She has co-authored the book, The Listening Journey, with Francoise Nicoloff, and her second book, Our Greatest Allies, is now available on Amazon.com. Her basic philosophy is that all children can learn, and that therapists and teachers are instrumental in finding out the “key” to each child. She enjoys empowering professionals to do just that!
