Seminar: From Sensory Processing to Executive Functioning

This workshop is designed to provide a hierarchy of development that occurs in every school student in order to be ready for the world of academics. Course participants will understand the scope of executive functions, it’s definitions, and it’s impact on learning. The Sensory Building Blocks in early development will provide a frame of treatment that will enable the course participants to plan their intervention in a way that will truly support the student in achieving higher outcomes. The speaker includes ideas from different modalities from a diverse array of trainings and experiences, which enables the course participant to feel equipped to plan assessment and intervention according to individual profiles. This course is a timely breath of fresh air that brings the course participant back to basics in a way that simplifies the complicated nature of student behavior and learning.

Speaker: Maude Le Roux, OTR/L, SIPT, IMC, RCTC, DIR CERTIFICATE

Maude has several years of field and supervisory experience in a variety of therapy fields. She is an experienced Occupational Therapist, SIPT Certified, holds a DIR certificate, as well as completed several Sound Therapy certifications. She has been appointed as one of the international training team leaders in the DIR / Floortime Certificate process as well as in Tomatis Sound therapy and Interactive Metronome. Maude is a mentor to many therapists, including OT and DIR professionals internationally. She has presented at conferences in a variety of settings across the US and also internationally. She is appointed as a board member of ATTACH and will be serving a three year term from January 2016 to December 2018. She has co-authored the book, The Listening Journey, with Francoise Nicoloff, and her second book, Our Greatest Allies, is now available on Amazon.com. The second book specifically entails a detailed case study around the DIR/Floortime Method and growth in adaptive response and executive functioning skills.

Course Objectives

Participants will:

  1. Be able to list the 10 major executive functioning skills
  2. Be able to apply 10 new ideas in their sessions to facilitate executive functions
  3. Be able to link neuro-anatomy to the 10 different key executive functions
  4. Consider the impact of ‘bottom up” and “top down” approaches to executive functioning
  5. List and discuss the impact of 7 layers of sensory motor development on executive functions
  6. Consider 8 different tools for assessment of executive functions
