Seminar: Executive Functioning Practical Toolkit for the Classroom
                  - Helping the student to be organized, structured and planful


This workshop will provide a brief look at different executive functions that is essential for classroom participation and learning. It will provide many ideas of structure that would be helpful to the student to best enable learning. This workshop would be applicable for all ages, including special needs and regular education students. The participant will leave with a toolkit of techniques that will support best practice of teaching as well as therapeutic assistance in the classrooms. It will serve as a natural bridge for therapists to transition the prowess from the clinical setting into the functional application of the classroom setting.

Speaker: Maude Le Roux

Maude is an Occupational Therapist with several years of field and supervisory experience in a variety of therapy fields. She started her career in the field of psychiatric conditions and transitioned over the years to develop a multi-modal practice in pediatrics. She started A Total Approach in 2002 and since then have become an international trainer in different areas of work. She has been appointed as one of the international training team leaders in the DIR / Floortime® Certificate process, as well as Tomatis Sound Therapy and Interactive Metronome. Maude has completed several courses in the practice of attachment and trauma informed care. She also serves on the board of ATTACH for the next 3 years. She designs her own live courses with regards to emotional processing and executive functioning. Maude works with a team of occupational therapists, speech language pathologists and Floortime therapists in her practice. She is well known for her experience and work with children who carry a diagnosis on the Autism Spectrum, Attachment, Sensory Processing Disorder, and Dyslexia/ Learning Disabilities. Maude is a mentor to many therapists, including OT and DIR professionals internationally. She has presented at conferences in a variety of settings across the US and also internationally. She has co-authored the book, The Listening Journey, with Francoise Nicoloff, and her second book, Our Greatest Allies, is now available on Amazon.com. Her basic philosophy is that all children can learn, and that therapists are instrumental in finding out the “key” to each child. She enjoys empowering parents and therapists to do just that!

Course Objectives

Participants will be able to :

  • Identify 10 executive functioning skills that is instrumental for a student to participate effectively in a classroom setting
  • Describe the impact of disorganization and students feeling “lost” at school
  • List 10 different techniques, with lab experimentation and practice, that could be applied in the classroom to support organizational and executive skill
  • Apply a specially designed form to create a student’s executive learning profile to assist in identifying which strategy to use for a particular student.
