Seminar: Practical Classroom Ideas for Emotional Processing
                  - Preventing and Dealing with Frustrations and Promoting Emotional Growth

(PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS COURSE IS SIMILAR TO 'FROM SENSORY PROCESSING TO EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING')

This workshop will provide a brief look at some of the prevailing theories with regards to emotional processing and trauma informed care. The participant will gain practical knowledge of putting some of these theories into practice. Discover together several techniques that would make being at school easier for the child with special needs and create more calmness in the classroom in general. Calming techniques as well as techniques that would promote emotional growth would be discussed. The course participants will also learn a “meltdown recipe” that will be supportive of mental health for all and decrease frustration in the classroom.

Speaker: Maude Le Roux

Maude is an Occupational Therapist with several years of field and supervisory experience in a variety of therapy fields. She started her career in the field of psychiatric conditions and transitioned over the years to develop a multi-modal practice in pediatrics. She started A Total Approach in 2002 and since then have become an international trainer in different areas of work. She has been appointed as one of the international training team leaders in the DIR / Floortime® Certificate process, as well as Tomatis Sound Therapy and Interactive Metronome. Maude has completed several courses in the practice of attachment and trauma informed care. She also serves on the board of ATTACH for the next 3 years. She designs her own live courses with regards to emotional processing and executive functioning. Maude works with a team of occupational therapists, speech language pathologists and Floortime therapists in her practice. She is well known for her experience and work with children who carry a diagnosis on the Autism Spectrum, Attachment, Sensory Processing Disorder, and Dyslexia/ Learning Disabilities. Maude is a mentor to many therapists, including OT and DIR professionals internationally. She has presented at conferences in a variety of settings across the US and also internationally. She has co-authored the book, The Listening Journey, with Francoise Nicoloff, and her second book, Our Greatest Allies, is now available on Amazon.com. Her basic philosophy is that all children can learn, and that therapists are instrumental in finding out the “key” to each child. She enjoys empowering parents and therapists to do just that!

Course Objectives

Participants will be able to :

  • Identify 3 theorists of today that is supportive in understanding the emotional world of children today.
  • Describe the impact that individual differences has on development and intrinsic motivation to participate and learn
  • List 10 different techniques, with lab experimentation and practice, that could be applied in the classroom
  • Identify core relational styles that would impact on the teacher-child relationship as well as therapist – teacher-child therapeutic alliance
