Seminar: Performance Matters - Learn Skills to Inspire Great Teams

There is trend towards removing performance management process in organisations. However, in order to drive performance, we still need to set expectations, provide feedback so that our employees can learn and perform. If learning is to take place on the job, then leaders need to be clear with their expectations and provide feedback to develop and challenge the individual. Many leaders often avoid feedback for fear of damaging the relationship. This program helps leaders to build working agreements with their team members and create a feedback culture essential for learning. The culture of continuous learning is critical to for leaders to inculcate in their employees. As work environment and context changes with increased automation, employees must have a learning mindset to adapt and grow themselves to stay relevant.

Speaker: Linda Tan

Linda has more than 25 years’ experience in HR focusing on Leadership Development and Talent Management. She works with executive teams to develop talent management practices to select and develop the right talent in order to build engaged and sustainable organizations. She believes in the importance of building an environment of trust for open and honest conversations to discover what’s important, bring clarity and define actions for the future. The companies she has worked for include Merck, Sharp & Dohme, National Semiconductor, AT&T, Reuters, Diageo and Jabil. She used to be an adjunct lecturer in Singapore Institute of Management and is currently engaged as a leadership coach in NTU.

Course Outline
  1. Factors that drives high performance in work – internal and external motivation. Explore individual’s motivations for work and learning and understand the need to adapt to external environment
  2. Expectations: The root of performance issues. How to set clear expectations and develop or reset work agreements with your employees.
  3. Setting SMART goals – develop meaningful and measurable goals to track progress.
  4. Feedback: Activity to raise the importance of feedback. Build skills to give feedback that reduces resistance and encourages learning
  5. Use GROW framework to hold development discussion with employees.
Learning Methodology
  1. Mini lectures to expand knowledge
  2. Group discussions to share insights and real-world problems/concerns and issues
  3. Activities – go through an experience to learn and have fun
  4. Reflections – quiet moments to think, reflect and make plans
