The Therapeutic Art Series are evidence based interactive workshops that provide the participant with an opportunity to reflect, discuss and practise incorporating art into working with children, adolescents or adults both individually and in groups.

Speaker: Jannie B. Olsen

Jannie B. Olsen, MMH/BSW/Dip.Art/Cert.IV holder, is an accredited professional art psychotherapist and mental health social worker. She has many years of experience working with and teaching about art in mental health, child development/behaviour/learning difficulties and family systems. She has worked in countries like Denmark, Vietnam, India, UK, US, Nepal and Australia.

Course Outline

This workshop will cover:

  1. The expected development of children when they reach the adolescence stage
  2. The impact of emotional, behavioural and learning challenges for adolescence and how art can be a part of understanding their strengths and challenges
  3. The strategies to supporting management towards an increased overall well-being of the individual
Course Objectives

Participants will learn through discussions, reflection and hands-on activities:

  1. Developmental stages of
  2. Emotional, behavioural and learning challenges of adolescence
  3. How adolescents, through using art, can understand their own strengths and
  4. How adolescents, through using art, can find their own voice and thereby feel empowered
  5. How art can be part of communicating in a safe way

All professionals (social workers, counsellors, SPED teachers, therapists, parents/caregivers) working with vulnerable individuals and/or groups of adolescents.
