Seminar: The Use of Developmental Rhythms in Body Movement

Movement impacts development and it shapes the lives of the children. The way we support our children's moving bodies establish the groundwork for synaptic connections within and across brain hemispheres. This is essential not only for the physical coordination but also for the organization of perceptions and the range of responses to the environment. The course allows parents and professionals to look at developmental movement using the ten tension-flow rhythms based on the principles of Kestenberg Movement Profile (KMP) in children in their early years. The changes in muscle tensions originate from specific body zones and are associated with specific biological functions. These tension flow rhythms offer an important insight into developmental issues, and help us to understand the needs of the child.

Speaker: Lillian Thio

Lillian Thio is a licensed provincial registered Psychotherapist (PACFA, ARCAP), licensed professional Dance/Movement therapist (DTAA) and a pioneer in Dance/Movement Therapy (2000) from Singapore. She has her own private practice”iexpress2explore” in Australia. She is a consultant/accredited trainer and assessor for the education and health sector based in Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and Philippines. In her practice in Australia, she works with babies to school aged children; provides training to health professionals in dementia care; a speaker to the corporate/charity sector for staff development and she runs natural essential workshop. She has completed her research on dance/movement therapy with hearing-impaired child in Singapore and cochlea-implant children in Sydney.
