Overview
Children and adolescents with intellectual disability and autism are at increased risk of experiencing mental health difficulties, yet these concerns are often misunderstood or overlooked.
This practical workshop provides an overview of mental health and well-being in children and adolescents with intellectual disability and autism. Participants will learn about common mental health concerns, screening and assessment, and evidence-based approaches to prevention and mental health intervention. Practical strategies to support social, emotional and mental well-being across home, school and clinical settings will also be discussed.

Dr Belinda Ratcliffe (Phd)
Belinda is the lead author of the Westmead Feelings Program, an evidence-based social and emotional program for autistic children, developed as part of a team at the Sydney Children’s Hospital and evaluated as part of her PhD research. She has trained thousands of health, education and disability professionals across Australia and internationally. She is passionate about translating research into practical, evidence-informed strategies that improve the mental health and well-being of neurodivergent children, adolescents and their families
